Lots has changed around here! WE MOVED! We first moved to Arizona from Rexburg in June of 2014 when Blake got a job at General Motors. General Motors was a great company for Blake to work for and he enjoyed his time there! In January of 2019, Blake got offered a job in Logan, Utah. He started work in February and we were all moved in with my parents on March 1. We put our things in storage while we tried to sell our house that we had just bought haha. We are so grateful to my parents for taking us in. Our house is now sold in Arizona. Closing will be in June and we will move to our new home in Smithfield around that time! We are excited for our new adventures there. I was pretty sad to leave Arizona, but we have enjoyed being in Idaho with family. Arizona will always be special to me, but you just can't beat the country and mountain views in Idaho. Right now, everything is green. June is my favorite month in Grace.
I sure do love all of the people we left behind in Arizona. I had made lots of great friends in both of the wards we lived in. I had met new friends through my photography business. I was thinking yesterday how many amazing people found me through this very website who I now think of all the time and consider friends. I feel rich with great friends, great family, and great love in my life! Thanks to all of you!
We took these pictures in October. I still haven't printed them. Don't be like me! The two years before we took these pictures, Linden screamed the whole session. Somehow we got darling pictures those years too, but it was a nice change for Linden to not be screaming!
Change and transformation is a huge part of life. I have changed in negative and positive ways over the years. I’ve spent days, months, weeks and years dealing with depression and anxiety. I would think, “Why am I so sad when I have so much joy surrounding me?” That’s one of the most frustrating things about depression and anxiety disorders. You feel numb, and sick and broken when you “should” feel joy, blessings and happiness. I spent years being unhealthy mentally and physically; both of those things played off of each other.
Over the past year I have been able to drastically transform my life. I exercise almost daily, I eat food that nourishes my body, I meditate and try to get myself back to positive thinking when I am in a negative place. I rest and relax with out feeling guilty about it. I find joy in my family and in my life. I don’t have it all figured out, but I am in such a better place than before. I’m so grateful for modern medicine and all of the resources to help us through these situations. I’m so grateful for my patient, charitable husband.
I am not ashamed to admit that I have done mental health counseling and I take antidepressants. Talking about such a raw subject does make me nervous and afraid.
My appearance has changed a lot physically, but I don’t feel more beautiful than I used to be. I know I’ve always been beautiful and I’ve always been loved even though I complain about my physical features. I can now live a happier, healthier, more joyous life because of the changes I’ve made to improve my physical and mental health.
One thing I know is that I didn’t have my experiences because I wasn’t good enough, or because I was being punished or because I wasn’t trying hard enough at life even though that wasn’t always clear to me. I’ve learned so much from my trials. I can relate to others who are going through similar things. I have a greater love and sympathy for people who are struggling. I know my mental health journey isn’t over. I’m grateful for the hard things I had to endure because that’s how I get closer to being who God wants me to be.
I wanted to write this when I started seeing people post pictures of how aging has affected . All of the posts I have seen are full of beauty 10 years ago and today. We are all beautiful children of God on a Divine journey.
Below I have shared pictures of me from 10 years ago, 1 year ago, and today! I was thinking how I’ve changed so much in a year and if I would have done this a year ago I would have negative aging results... but that isn’t true! I was beautiful even when I wasn’t as healthy as I am today. I hope you know you’re beautiful as well no matter what condition your physical appearance is in.
Happy Halloween! Angela makes a remarkable halloween costume every year. She enjoys sewing and creating unique costumes! Check out Angela's instagram page to see more of her costumes, This year her costume was inspired by the movie Coco! She did such a beautiful job on her make up, headpiece and dress!
Angela and I went to high school together and now we both live in Arizona. We haven't been very good about getting together, but we always have a great time when we do! Angela is so easy to talk to, funny and easy to relate with. I was so happy Angela asked me to take photographs of her in her costume! It was inspiring seeing her costume and the amazing piece of art she has created!
I love the Bradford Family! Sherri posts on Facebook the funny things that Araya says and I crack up at every post! I met them a few years ago when Blake and I moved to Arizona. I got to visit Sherri and Bryten often and get to know them better. Sherri is a great listener and I love chatting with her.
We had a very memorable family photo session at Coon Bluff! The light and landscape was beautiful and we had ourselves some good laughs. John had a spider crawl down his shirt but didn't believe his dad that there was a spider in his shirt! It was pretty hilarious and everyone was laughing as he shook out his shirt and got the tiny spider out of it.
NEXT there was a rattle snake! I don't believe I have seen a snake at a session in Arizona so this was my first. I stayed far away but Scott got up close and personal and discovered it was six years old.
I am so happy we got to capture these beautiful family photos of the Bradford family! Thanks Sherri for being an amazing friend and always telling people about my photography!
This session was my first time exploring Phon D Sutton. I can always count on Stacey to come up with a great location idea, great outfits, and great attitudes for their family pictures! I am so happy they have me take their pictures several times a year because I love seeing them. I also love that documenting their family and little Dylan is so important to them.
I will be honest, I don't get my family pictures taken nearly enough! I always love my images when I get them done, but preparing can often be a struggle. The act of getting them taken can also be total chaos! Last year, my daughter screamed for the ENTIRE session!!
I have some tips for a smooth family session with children for you; however you usually need to be prepared for something to go wrong and try to remain calm. First, Try not to let the kids fall asleep in the car. This makes for grouchy smiles and like in my case, a screaming child! When choosing your location, pick somewhere that you don't have to do much off-roading. It's a pain when you're yelling at the kids to get out of the cactus or mud. Make sure the kids are fed before the session and bring a drink and snack to your session just incase. Sometimes we all get hangry! Explain to your children weeks in advance what they will be doing at their session and what you expect of them. Lastly, PRAY! haha. I am not even kidding. I usually pray before every session for a smooth running session and happy memories to be made. I hope those tips are helpful for your family pictures this fall!
I met Lacy a few years ago when we lived in the same community! Lacy was just a young girl, and an excellent babysitter! She is full of talent and creativity. I was very excited when she asked me to photograph her wedding day!
Lacy and Cody got married earlier this year in the Gilbert, Arizona temple. Photographing the two of them, their families and friends was a dream! They are such kind and genuine people. Lacy and Cody's wedding reception in Queen Creek, Arizona was darling. Lots of family and friends were their celebrating. If I am being honest, one of my favorite things about wedding receptions is the cake. @kris10_bloom made Lacy and Cody's beautiful cake.
At Lacy and Cody's wedding in particular, I LOVED the flowers. @bushel_and_peck_co designed the wedding flowers. The colors were beautiful. If I had a do over for my wedding, I would choose these flowers! The darling cupcakes were made by @monicac12707.
The decorations were so unique and something I have never seen before! I loved that they had a unique theme. There were cute maps, globes, planes, and suit cases all around the reception. It was very well done by @fancyloudesigns.
Something I do at most all weddings is CRY during the father and daughter and son and mother dance! This wedding reception was no exception for me. It was so cute watching Lacy and her mom watch Cody and his mom dance. Lacy and her mom were both crying. It was definitely a very special day and I felt blessed to be apart of it capturing all of the special memories.
Yay! You booked me as your wedding photographer. Now what?
Wedding Consultations are a great way to get to know each other and to give me the information I will need to know about your wedding day. We will sign your contract and get your retainer fee paid. These are usually lots of fun and we will get to gush about all of your wedding details and your relationship!
If you are just to busy and would like to do things things over email, that is completely fine!
Planning your Engagement Photo Session
After you have signed your wedding contract it is time to start planning your engagement session. Now is the time to think of what kind of location you would like and what you want to wear. Most couples bring a dressier outfit and a more casual outfit. Feel free to bring several options. I have a list of location ides if you are just drawing a blank. We can pick out a spot together that will work perfectly for you. If you have a place that is special to the two of you, it would be awesome to consider doing some of your photos there.
If you didn't book a package with an engagement session, then I won't need anything from you until you have the wedding day timeline and specifics all ready to go.
Your Wedding Day
As a wedding photographer, I have been to a few weddings. :) Generally, they all have a similar flow. If you have any questions about the timeline of you wedding feel free to ask! It is very important that there is enough time to take all of the photos you want to document your day.
Some couples choose to do a "First Look" before the ceremony. This allows for us to get more photos of the bride and groom than you would have if you didn't do a first look. Either way is great. It is totally up to you as a couple. Each moment is special. Seeing each other as the bride walks down the aisle and seeing each other before the ceremony both have their own special feelings.
On your wedding day we will usually start with the "Getting ready" photos of the bride and her bridesmaids and then the grooms and groomsman. After that we either do a first look and pictures of the almost married couple or formal photos of the bridesmaids and bride and groomsman and groom.
Then it is time for your ceremony! I'll be up and around capturing the special memories on your wedding day. After your ceremony we will take family photos and bridal party photos and then photos of the newly married couple.
Depending on the type of wedding, the reception is next! All weddings are different but it his helpful to have an idea of shots that are most important to you. I will be capturing every little detail and every special moment on your wedding day up until the minute you leave the wedding as a newly married couple.
After the Wedding
You're all married! Now what!
I just can't help it, so I will be emailing you some of my favorite photos for you to enjoy or to post to share with your family and friends. A week or two after the wedding, your images will be done and ready for you to have forever! I will send them over an online gallery which you will have access to for ten years. You can download the full resolution images right off the gallery onto your computer.
I will start working on your wedding album if you ordered one! (highly recommend) Wedding albums are one of my favorite ways to print wedding pictures. After I get it created, I will send over the first draft to you via email and you will let me know of any changes you want made. After everything is finalized, I will send it to the printer and you will have it in 2-5 business days.
I love all of my brides and grooms and they all become cherished friends. It is so special photographing weddings and being apart of such a special occasion. I love seeing families being created.
One of the hardest parts about planning your family photo shoot is figuring out what to wear! It is definitely not a strong point for me when planning my own family photos because I am not good at fashion at all! My clients always seem to have the outfits figured out and looking the best possible! Here are a few suggestions of what to wear that photograph well.
I always recommend accessorising with headbands, bows, and jewelry for the little girls. This adds character to the children and helps show off their cute personalities. Accessories are great for moms as well. Layers photograph really well as well as some darling shoes and jewelry.
This may not be popular opinion, but I actually really like photographing people in prints! I thought that Natalies shirt looked really great especially at this location. It brought all of the colors together, was feminine and beautiful. I like it when one person is wearing a more busy print and the other outfits are solid. I also like coordinating prints which I will talk about later on in this blog post!
It is usually recommended to wear a solid color outfit, but adding textures or layers. I like that too! Either way, I think it photographs great. If everyone were wearing different prints that didn't coordinate well, thats where I would say to stay away from prints.
It looks really nice when men wear colored pants, trousers or slacks. Jeans look nice when you are going for a more casual look as well.
Dresses or Skirts
I love when women choose to wear a dress or a skirt. If you choose the right dress, it can be really flattering to any body type.
I love that Lisa is wearing a skirt and also has on a sweater. The layers photograph really well as well as her skirt with a print. I also love when men wear sweaters. It changes things up from the usual button up shirt or t-shirt. I definitely recommend avoiding t-shirts with logos on them.
Adding a Pop of Color
I love a good pop of color! That is a fun way to change up your family pictures from year to year. We took these photos in San Tan Valley and the pop of pink looks really good in this setting. I also love the tonal look with the boys and baby in different shades of blue. Blue is always a good choice!
I definitely couldn't have put together these outfits below and pulled it off! The mama of this family has a way with perfect family picture outfits. I love the different textures, colors, and patterns and also accessories. The girls have on dainty little headbands that aren't to distracting but still add a feminine and pretty touch. The boys have on ties that are different prints and different patterned shirts. I think this is a great idea if you can come up with the right combinations.
Light Colors and Jeans
I love light colors in photos! Creams and Whites photograph really well and look good good on most everyone. I also think wearing jeans in family photos can be really cute! I love how Molly accessorized with a darling belt and dainty necklace. She also tucked her shirt only in the front and it looks really flattering. I also love the simple prints on both of their shirts. Neither of them are distracting.
It's fun to change things up sometimes and dress more formal! This long dress is really flattering on Jera who is pregnant in this photo. Her daughter looks darling in a long lace dress with fancy sleeves. Wearing formal clothes can photograph really well. The men and boys can wear suits or shirts and ties. I love taking fancy family photos!
These are just some of the options for your next family photo shoot! Most importantly, wear something that makes you feel great. If you are a cowboy and feel great in a hat and wrangles, than wear that! If you feel good in jeans and a cute top, wear that! Be unique to your own family and tell the story of YOU.
I got to serve in the Young Women's program in my church and that is where I met beautiful Camilla. Camilla is heading off to Utah for College really soon! I was so happy I got to see her and chat with her the other day. She has a beautiful, tender soul and she loves her Savior so much. She is wise beyond her years and she is going to touch so many people through out her life. Something I like about the schools around here is that you can graduate from high school with a technical certificate. Camilla is a really good massage therapist! I can't wait to see where her journey takes her. Good luck at college Camilla!
Meet the cute Grigg Family! Jordan is Blake's cousin. The cute Grigg family lived in Arizona for a little while this past year and I got to take their family pictures! We went on a little adventure to Superstition Mountain and I may have taken them off roading and it may have been a little bit sketchy :| Luckily, they could handle it haha! Baby Stevie and Eliza got to go swimming with us once, and we got to have dinner with them. It was fun to hang out with them a little bit while they lived in Arizona for Jordan's internship. They are amazing, kind people and that baby is just as cute as it gets! Thanks for having me take your family pictures Jordan and Eliza!
The Zander Family moved to Arizona a year or so ago and Samantha founded me online and asked if I would take their family pictures. I loved learning more about them and their sweet family. Since their Family session in Phoenix, Arizona, I have gotten to go to the pool with the girls! We had fun chatting and playing in the water. This session was fun and the camera loves this family. They have beautiful smiles and beautiful personalities. They have been through a lot in their life and their strength was an inspiration to me.
Emma is one of the happiest people I have ever photographed! She has a smile that could light up the world! Emma chose two locations for her senior pictures. The first one we went to was Boyce Thompson Arboretum and the second was ASU Old Maine Building. Emma is about to head off to college there so it was fun to take her pictures there. I loved her outfits and felt like they showed off her cute personality. I can't wait too see all that Emma accomplishes in this world! She is an amazing girl.
I remember editing this session and having a really hard time narrowing down the photos! There are so many good ones. I love taking pictures for the Fullmer family. They are so kind and we have so much fun every time we go out and take pictures. Dylan is hilarious and the camera loves him!! I first took pictures for them when Dylan was turning 2 years old! My last session with them was for Dylans's 4th birthday. I took these pictures in the Fall of 2017 at Gilbert Riparian Preserve. Stacey had scouted out some spots that she wanted to take the pictures and it turned out beautiful. Gilbert Riparian Preserve is on of my favorite places to take pictures because of the greenery and all of the different backgrounds.
I met the Whitener Girls at Dawson and LInden's singing class! Venessa really liked some sunset pictures I had taken where there was a pink sky. The sunset came and it was pink and beautiful just like she wanted! The family had beautiful outfits and it was so fun to meet the Whitener boys for the first time. I love being instagram friends with Venessa and seeing all of their adventures. #familygoals Thanks for having me take your family photos!
It’s been a minute since I’ve introduced myself around here! I am a small town farm girl from Idaho. I love the mountains and scenery you’ll find in southeast Idaho. I love the community and people from my little town. Living in a small town is like having 900 family members who have your back. I say 900 because that’s the population... and I didn’t even live in city limits! It’s an hour to the closest Walmart from the little town I lived in for 18 years. I’ve since moved to Rexburg Idaho and I am now living in queen creek Arizona with my husband Blake and our 2 little kids. We have grown to love Arizona and the people we’ve met here. At first, we were the only people from our family living here besides our Aunt Peggy who was here half the time. In the past year my sister and her husband, mother and father in law and brother in law have all moved to our same little town! Can't wait for more family to move here ;)
When I left my little town after graduating high school, I went to college at BYUi where I met my husband. We were married just over a year after I graduated high school and that’s when real life began! We have conquered a lot together and it’s crazy how you can grow to love someone even more than you did the day you married them!
I got to do an internship with a local photographer in Idaho and that was a huge turning point in my photography career. I was blessed to learn many business and photography skills. I don’t pick up my camera just for fun as much as I’d like to, but I am happy with my growth and progress over the past 7 years. It really makes me happy taking photos for others and running a little business.
Here in Arizona I have met several friends who enjoy photography and also have businesses so it is so fun to talk to them and trade secrets. I am all about community over competition. I love spending time with my family in the mountains. We love going camping even though it’s tons of effort haha! I of course love watching TV and sometimes even write “watch tv” on my to do list. It’s a priority sometimes 😂 My days now consist of school pick up and drop off, t-ball practice, dance lessons, and caring for my little family. I started working out again a few months ago at fit body bootcamp and its my favorite. I love working out and pushing my limits.
We had these photos taken before we moved out of our very first home that we owned! I love them. Thanks to my friend Kacy for taking them for me!
That’s just a little bit about me! Thanks for reading :)
Hi there. I'm Nicole. I'm a small town girl from Idaho who loves photography, my Savior and my family. You'll find me in the mountains with my camera around my neck begging my husband, "lets just take one more picture of your S'more." I love to blog about my photography sessions, family life and much more! Come read along.
